DIY Honey, Oat, Almond and Lavender Face Mask
One of the things I love to do is make my own skincare products at home. It's so easy to make lovely, natural and surprisingly effective skincare with things you probably already have in your kitchen.
Despite being all natural recipes and ingredients, if any irritation occurs rinse off immediately and always avoid contact with eyes.
Why these ingredients?
Oats - Antioxidant and anti-inflammatory which helps dry skin, exfoliate to remove dead skin cells and they can also help to treat acne thanks to natural cleansing compounds called saponins.
Ground Almond - Full of Vitamin E which softens and moisturises. It is an excellent, gentle exfoliant which buffs the skin.
Lavender - Anti-inflammatory which aids discolouration, blotchiness, redness and can help to brighten the skin. Lavender is full of antioxidants, which help protect you from pesky free radicals, meaning they can aid in minimising wrinkles.
How to make your mask:
- Honey
- Oats
- Lavender
- Flour
- Water
Vegans can swap honey for agave syrup, it will create a sticky consistency and help to bind in the same way although it doesn't have the same anti-bacterial properties.
Gluten-free or coeliacs can swap oats for ground almonds.
Mix together in a small bowl or tea cup, adding a little water if needed to loosen it up. You want it to be a thick, paste-like and a bit sticky. Each ingredient can be added in whatever quantity you like - I favour lots of lavender in mine!
If it gets too watery, add flour to thicken it up and absorb excess water.
Apply to your dry face with your fingers. Be warned, lumps of oat and lavender will fall or not stick right away but they should adhere eventually - add more honey or agave if they really don't want to stick. Lie back and leave on for as long as you like, then gently massage your face with the oats and lavender as you rinse it off with warm water
