What is Plastic Free July?
'Be part of the solution to plastic pollution'
July might just be my favourite month because it's all about plastic free!
From a small initiative that began in 2011, Plastic Free July has grown into an enormous, worldwide movement that encourages people to ditch single-use and go plastic free for the whole month. Millions of people now sign up and pledge to this challenge worldwide with the goal of reducing their own plastic waste.

According to their official website:

an estimated 140 million people worldwide took part in Plastic Free July 2021 from 190 countries.

they reduced 2.1 billion tonnes of waste and recycling including 300 million kgs of plastic consumption

Plastic-Free July has reduced global demand by 2.3% of all bottled water, 3.1% of all fruit and vegetable packaging, 4.0% of all plastic straws

How can I get involved?

Biodegradable Bath Pouf
A supersimple bathroom swap is choosing a Biodegradable Bath Pouf over one made from plastic netting.

Reusable Food Storage
Cling film is particularly damaging. It's almost impossible to recycle and it gets into our oceans and chokes marine life, not to mention the chemicals it contains.
Our Biodegradable Bowl Covers are made entirely of cotton and natural rubber, no plastic in sight. Yo can pop them in the washing machine and use them time and again - much better for the planet.

None Sponges
A little kitchen swap that can make a big difference is going from a disposable, plastic washing-up sponge to one of our Kitchen None Sponges. Our Kitchen None Sponges are biodegradable, compostable, plant-based and plastic-free! They have a compressed, plant-based cellulose core which expands when wet into a soft, squishy sponge. The durable netting layer works like a scouring pad to tackle more stubborn washing up.

Shopping with Refills
One of the most sustainable to shop is by using refills. It's one of the most fun ways to shop, too! Zero-waste refill shops have been popping up all over in recent years and they provide an excellent way to shop for some of your food, beauty and cleaning products without buying excess plastic packaging. Perhaps do some research to see if there's one near you, or if a local health food shop offer some refill options, and go and check them out. It can be a little daunting at first but grab any containers you have lying around, pop in, ask how it all works and have a go!
